I am sending you this update from Manhattan, NYC. I am halfway through the film making course at New York Film Academy. It is an intensive 2 years worth of information into two months. We have made three short films and numerous exercise films in class. It has been very inspiring on many levels. If you were thinking you may like promotional short film of your products, workers, business or perhaps the family - I am your girl. Talk to me about the options for live streaming on the internet.

This was the morning of the third film I directed. The task was to make a music film. I set it to a piece from “Flight of the Concords”. It was an early start at 4.15am... my goal to capture the sunrise on New York. Lucky for me the sun did rise...and the police were very interested in what I was doing too. I felt very safe being watched so closely.

Gosh this is the melting pot for all walks of life. Here is the Bubble Man. He spends his day showering the traffic with his joy. Waving to the tourist buses and selling his bubble makers (made in China!) I had to buy one for my soon to be three year old niece.

While directing the music film, my brave and wonderful crew climbed onto the roof with me to shoot the rush hour. Which in Union Square is actually any hour! Here is L- R Solomon King from Korea and Leandro Lopes from Brazil helping me to make a wonderful third film. Thank you guys, for going the extra mile.

Here is our crew on the streets of Manhattan. We are with a "real" vendor and our wonderful actor, Joey O'Donnell. The team is shooting my continuity film. It was a full on action packed hot day. My cameraman is Bhushan Bagadia from India. I was thrilled at our results. The class killed themselves with laughter over the film. Humor always a winner.

Wow one of our classes was with this amazing man. Mr. Richard Shore ASC, he is a mind of wonderful information. Richard trained in the 50’s and got a Masters Degree in Film. With over 40 yrs in the game working in over 20 different countries. He shared many inspiring thoughts about the process of making movies. Yeah to old wise men who are prepared to share their knowledge. Thank you Richard – you rock.

In case I momentarily forgot which great American city I was in. The bright yellow taxi is an instant reminder. They fly by you at great speed...usually honking. (because they can). The beat of this city is quite unique. People working in Manhattan are focused on their world, rushing past you while wearing ipods. I just found out, there are 80 million people in the greater New York Area!!! That is massive.

This man is for real. His name is “Chris” he is often in the streets of Union Square. He is usually sleeping. He became my inspiration for my first short film. Thanks Chris...I do hope someone bought you a beer.
Life can inspire us ongoingly, you only need to open your eyes.

We are now into planning our final films, which means we can choose which format to shoot with. For practice, I took the digital camera out to Coney Island. Some of you will know Astroland Amusement Park which is on the chopping block. This snap is taken from the top of the Wonder Wheel which first opened in 1920. I just love old things. It was an extremely interesting afternoon of winning soft toys... riding the roller coaster!! (madness) and filming the sites.

America has just celebrated their independence day. I was lucky to be invited to a lovely roof top area, in Central Manhattan. There were top views the city. Sadly it rained. That did not stop us from celebrating in style, enjoying the fireworks off in the distance. God bless America. I will be returning to New Zealand August 18th. I look forward to catching your news soon.
